The William Castro Apple Award was graciously created by Spanish Lakes Elementary School in 2017 in remembrance of William (‘Willy’) Castro. The award is given to 5th graders who exude qualities of kindness, generosity, determination, perseverance, friendship and endless love. It seeks to encourage students to not only focus on their academic achievements but to carry out a good heart and positive attitude throughout the school year.
This year marks the 6th year in which the award is given. On May 26th and 27th 2022, Miriam and Luis Castro (WFI founders and Willy’s parents) alongside Spanish Lakes Elementary’s Principal and Vice Principal awarded Maykol Gonalez and Emely Lopez with the William Castro Apple Award.
Both Miriam and Luis, as well as our organization, wish Maykol and Emely much success as they embark on their journey to middle school. We are so grateful to Spanish Lakes Elementary for continuing to carry out this award in memory of Willy and for placing such importance in the kindness and generosity of students.
